get off the wall!

  • In this Level One course of improvisational comedy, you’ll be focusing on feeling comfortable on stage, learning to “Yes, And’” and understanding the most basic elements of long form premise-based improv. As our most popular course, it’s a great introduction to the art and a fun way to meet new people and challenge yourself to have fun while occasionally looking silly. This class ends with a student show where the scenes made up by the performers are all inspired by monologues that the classmates share.

    Class Size: 20 Maximum
Duration: 8 weeks (one 3-hour class a week), followed by a graduation show
    Requirements: Age 18+

  • Level Two picks up where level One left off, by focusing on the mechanics of a long form scene. In Level Two we demonstrate, and practice all of the editing techniques available within this artform. Instruction covers introduction to “the game of the scene” and tools for heightening a scene as it progresses. This class ends with a student show in the “Carousel” format, where an initial one-word suggestion serves as inspiration for the first scene, then all subsequent scenes are inspired by something from the previous one.

    Class Size: 20 Maximum
Duration: 8 weeks (one 3-hour class a week), followed by a graduation show
    Requirements: Completed Level 1

  • Level Three takes all the skills developed in the first two courses and focuses further on the characters you get to play on stage. Through a series of acting exercises that focus on emotions, distinct viewpoints, physical demeanor and vocalization you’ll learn to take on the mannerisms of distinct characters that are less like the person you are off stage. This class ends with a student show in our “Town Hall” format, where members of the class present a Town Hall meeting which introduces the audience to a cast of characters inhabiting the town as it handles a bizarre civic issue. This is the final level required for performers to join the Wednesday Grab Bag cast on stage and become eligible to audition to be a weekly performer.

Upon completion of this course, you’re also able to re-take any of the Level One, Two or Three classes at a discount.

    Class Size: 20 Maximum
Duration: 8 weeks (one 3-hour class a week), followed by a graduation show
    Requirements: Completed Level 2
